- Review the correlating questions:
- Who was there first? How relevant is this question in the observed situation? Is there a definitive answer?
- ie. Is it fair to present the argument that someone can reach the summit first? Is this like saying Julie won the soccer game? Can someone be first if it took another person to get there?
- Is there a 1st place? Can/should mountaineering be considered competitive and/or a sport?
- ie. If you consider all the "firsts" on Everest (first ascent, fastest ascent, ascents without Oxygen, etc.), can it then be considered competitive? Does that make it a sport?
- Students are to choose a question to constructively respond to. Responses should be supported with evidence from the readings and discussion and suggest a real-world/personal connection.
